Giorgio Baglivi

Giorgio Baglivi, born on September 8, 1668, was a prominent figure in the medical field, recognized for his contributions as a physician, anatomist, and university teacher. His unique background as a Croatian-Italian of Armenian descent enriched his perspective on medicine and education.

Baglivi's most notable work, De Fibra Motrice, challenged the prevailing medical theories of his time. He advanced the 'solidist' theory, positing that the solid components of organs play a more critical role in their functionality than the fluids, a significant departure from the traditional belief in the four humors.
