Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio

Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, born in Milan in either fourteen sixty-six or fourteen sixty-seven, was a prominent Italian painter and draftsperson of the High Renaissance. He emerged from the vibrant artistic milieu of Lombardy, where he honed his skills in the esteemed studio of Leonardo da Vinci.

Boltraffio is recognized as one of the most significant artistic figures to arise from Leonardo's workshop, alongside Bernardino Luini. His works reflect the influence of his master while also showcasing his unique style and interpretation of the Renaissance ideals.

According to the renowned art historian Giorgio Vasari, Boltraffio hailed from an aristocratic family, which may have contributed to his access to the elite circles of art and culture in Milan. His contributions to the art world during this transformative period remain noteworthy.
