Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici

Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici, born in the year 1360, was a pivotal figure in the history of Florence, renowned for his role as a banker and the founder of the illustrious Medici Bank. His establishment of this financial institution marked the beginning of the Medici family's ascent to power, setting the stage for their significant influence in the region.

While other members of the Medici family, such as Chiarissimo di Giambuono de' Medici and Salvestro de' Medici, played notable roles in Florence's political landscape, it was Giovanni's banking endeavors that truly distinguished him. Giovanni was the father of Cosimo de' Medici and Lorenzo the Elder, both of whom would continue the family's legacy.
