Gisela Birkemeyer, born on December 22, 1931, was a remarkable German athlete who excelled as both a hurdler and a sprinter. In her personal life, Gisela married Heinz Birkemeyer in nineteen fifty-seven, and from nineteen sixty onward, she competed under his name. After retiring from competitive sports, she transitioned into coaching, sharing her expertise with aspiring athletes. Gisela later enjoyed her retirement in Berlin Marzahn, where she lived until her passing on March 26, 2024, at the age of ninety-two.
