Gisella Perl

In nineteen forty-four, she was deported to Auschwitz concentration camp, where she courageously served as an inmate gynecologist. Despite the dire conditions and lack of essential medical supplies, Perl dedicated herself to the care of hundreds of women, providing them with critical medical assistance during one of history's darkest periods.

After surviving the horrors of the Holocaust, Perl emigrated to New York, where she became one of the pioneering women to share the Holocaust experience in English. Her memoir, titled 'I Was a Doctor in Auschwitz,' published in nineteen forty-eight, offered a poignant and personal account of her experiences, shedding light on the resilience of the human spirit amidst unimaginable suffering.

In New York, Perl specialized in infertility treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she continued to make significant contributions to women's health. Later in her life, she moved to Herzliya, Israel, with her daughter, where she spent her remaining years before passing away.
