Giuliano Amato

Giuliano Amato, born on May thirteenth, nineteen thirty-eight, is a distinguished Italian politician and jurist who has held the esteemed position of Prime Minister of Italy on two separate occasions. His first term spanned from nineteen ninety-two to nineteen ninety-three, followed by a second term from two thousand to two thousand one. Following the passing of Arnaldo Forlani in July twenty twenty-three, Amato became the earliest-serving surviving Prime Minister in the country’s history.

In addition to his roles as Prime Minister, Amato has made significant contributions to European governance. He served as Vice President of the Convention on the Future of Europe, which was responsible for drafting the European Constitution, and he led the Amato Group, further showcasing his influence in European affairs. His political acumen has earned him the nickname 'dottor Sottile', a nod to the Scottish Medieval philosopher John Duns Scotus, reflecting his reputation for political subtlety.

Amato's career also includes a tenure as Minister of the Interior from two thousand six to two thousand eight under Romano Prodi's government.
