Giuseppe Piazzi

Giuseppe Piazzi, born on July sixteenth, seventeen forty-six, was a distinguished Italian Catholic priest of the Theatine order, renowned for his contributions to mathematics and astronomy. His passion for the celestial realm led him to establish the observatory in Palermo, which is now known as the Osservatorio Astronomico di Palermo – Giuseppe S. Vaiana.

Piazzi's most notable achievement came in the early nineteenth century when he discovered Ceres, the first dwarf planet, marking a significant milestone in the field of astronomy. This groundbreaking discovery not only expanded our understanding of the solar system but also paved the way for future explorations of celestial bodies.
