Giuseppe Zangara

Giuseppe Zangara, born on September seventh, nineteen hundred, was an Italian-born American who made headlines for his audacious attempt to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt. This dramatic event unfolded on February fifteenth, nineteen thirty-three, just seventeen days before Roosevelt was set to take office.

During a public speech in Miami, Florida, Zangara fired five shots from a handgun he had acquired shortly before the incident. Although he missed Roosevelt, his actions resulted in the tragic death of Anton Cermak, the Mayor of Chicago, and left four bystanders injured.

Following the assassination attempt, Zangara pled guilty to the charges against him and notably chose not to appeal his conviction. His swift journey through the legal system culminated in his execution in Florida's electric chair a little over a month later, marking a grim chapter in American history.
