Glauber Rocha

Glauber Rocha, born on March fourteenth, nineteen thirty-nine, was a pioneering Brazilian film director, actor, and screenwriter. He emerged as one of the most influential figures in Brazilian cinema, playing a crucial role in the Cinema Novo movement. His films, particularly 'Black God, White Devil' and 'Entranced Earth', are celebrated as monumental achievements in the history of Brazilian film, with Abraccine recognizing them as the second and fifth best Brazilian films of all time, respectively.

Rocha's cinematic style is characterized by its avant-garde and experimental nature, establishing him as a seminal figure of the new wave. His works are imbued with political themes, often reflecting the complex realities of the Third World. In his essay 'Estética da Fome' (The Aesthetics of Hunger), he metaphorically and literally addresses the concept of 'hunger', highlighting the socio-political struggles faced by marginalized communities.
