Glecia Bear

Glecia Bear, born on April twenty-ninth, nineteen twelve, was a remarkable figure in Saskatchewan, known for her contributions as a writer, children's author, and politician. A proud member of the Cree community, she dedicated her life to preserving and sharing the rich traditions of her culture through storytelling.

As a traditional tale teller, Glecia's narratives captured the essence of Cree heritage, weaving lessons and morals into her stories. Her work was further enriched by the collaboration with Freda Ahenakew, who recorded and translated her tales, ensuring that they reached a wider audience and resonated with generations to come.

In addition to her literary achievements, Glecia made history as the first female chief of the Flying Dust First Nation. Her leadership and commitment to her community exemplified her dedication to advocating for Indigenous rights and representation.
