Glenys Bakker

Glenys Bakker, born on August twenty-seventh, nineteen sixty-two, is a distinguished Canadian curler hailing from Calgary, Alberta. Throughout her career, she has been a pivotal member of Shannon Kleibrink's teams, showcasing her skills and dedication to the sport.

Bakker's curling journey includes significant achievements, such as playing second for Kleibrink's bronze medal-winning team at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Prior to this, she served as Kleibrink's alternate at the 1993 Scott Tournament of Hearts and was the team's third at the 1997 Canadian Olympic Trials, where they narrowly lost to Sandra Schmirler in the final.

In two thousand four, Bakker played as Kleibrink's second at the Scott Tournament of Hearts, finishing with a six to five record. The following year, she contributed to the team's success by winning the Canada Cup of Curling and securing a spot at the 2006 Olympics through the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials.

Despite the team's accomplishments, Bakker faced challenges during the Olympic tournament, ultimately ranking as the eighth best second out of ten competitors. She attributed her struggles to health issues related to her thyroid gland, which had shut down. After the Olympics, Bakker decided to leave Kleibrink's team to focus on her family.

Following her recovery, she formed a new team for the 2006–07 curling season, partnering with Allison Earl, Shannon Nimmo, and Barb Davies, marking a new chapter in her curling career.
