Gloria Steinem

Gloria Steinem, born on March twenty-fifth, nineteen thirty-four, is a prominent American journalist and social-political activist who rose to national prominence as a leader of second-wave feminism in the United States during the late nineteen sixties and early nineteen seventies. Her early career included a stint as a CIA operative, where she focused on anti-communism, showcasing her diverse background in activism and journalism.

Steinem gained significant recognition as a columnist for New York magazine and as a co-founder of Ms. magazine. Her influential article, "After Black Power, Women's Liberation," published in nineteen sixty-nine, catapulted her into the national spotlight and established her as a key figure in the feminist movement. In nineteen seventy-one, she co-founded the National Women's Political Caucus, which aims to train and support women seeking elected and appointed positions in government.

In the same year, she also co-founded the Women's Action Alliance, an organization that provided vital support to feminist activists and worked to advance feminist causes until nineteen ninety-seven. Throughout the nineteen nineties, Steinem played a crucial role in establishing Take Our Daughters to Work Day, an initiative designed to inspire young girls about future career opportunities.

In two thousand five, she collaborated with Jane Fonda and Robin Morgan to co-found the Women's Media Center, an organization dedicated to increasing women's visibility and power in the media. As of May two thousand eighteen, Steinem continues to travel internationally as an organizer and lecturer, serving as a media spokesperson on issues of equality.

In two thousand fifteen, she undertook a remarkable journey alongside two Nobel Peace Laureates and other prominent women peace activists, crossing the Korean Demilitarized Zone from North Korea to South Korea, further emphasizing her commitment to global peace and women's rights.
