Godeliève Mukasarasi

Godeliève Mukasarasi, born in 1959, is a remarkable Rwandan social worker and a dedicated human rights defender. As a genocide survivor, she has transformed her personal tragedy into a powerful force for change, advocating for the rights and welfare of marginalized communities.

In the aftermath of the genocide, Godeliève recognized the urgent need to support widowed women and their children who were left vulnerable. To address this pressing issue, she founded the organization Sevota, which has since played a crucial role in providing assistance and empowerment to these families.

Her unwavering commitment to social justice and rural development has garnered international recognition. In 2018, Godeliève was honored with the International Women of Courage award, a testament to her tireless efforts in championing the rights of women and children in Rwanda.
