Gonzalo Montiel

Gonzalo Montiel, born on January 1, 1997, is an accomplished Argentine professional footballer who has made a significant impact in the world of football. Primarily playing as a right-back, he has showcased his skills at both the club and international levels.

Montiel began his professional journey with River Plate in 2016, where he quickly established himself as a key player. Over the course of his tenure with the club, he made 140 appearances and contributed to their success, including winning the Argentine Primera División in 2021 and the prestigious Copa Libertadores in 2018.

In 2021, Montiel took a significant step in his career by signing with Sevilla for a transfer fee of eleven million euros. He was subsequently loaned to Nottingham Forest for the 2023–24 season, before returning to Sevilla for an additional year. Remarkably, after four years abroad, he made a triumphant return to River Plate in January 2025.

On the international stage, Montiel made his senior debut for the Argentina national team in 2019. He played a vital role in the squad that clinched the Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2022, where he notably scored the decisive penalty in the shoot-out during the final.
