Googoosh

Faegheh Atashin, known to the world as Googoosh, was born on May 5, 1950, and has become a legendary figure in Iranian pop culture. With a career that spans over six decades, she has established herself as a prominent singer and former actress, captivating audiences both in Iran and internationally. Her influence is profound, as she is regarded as a cultural icon whose music and style have left an indelible mark on generations.

Googoosh's rise to fame began in the 1950s, where she not only made significant contributions to Iranian pop music but also starred in numerous Persian films. By the late 1970s, she had reached the zenith of her popularity, becoming a trendsetter for Iranian women who emulated her distinctive fashion choices, including her iconic miniskirts and the short haircut that became known as the 'Googooshi.'

Following the Iranian Revolution in 1979, Googoosh faced a challenging period, remaining in Tehran until the year two thousand without the opportunity to perform due to restrictions on female singers. However, her music continued to resonate with younger generations, who discovered her work through bootleg recordings. After leaving Iran in two thousand, she embarked on a remarkable comeback, performing twenty-seven concerts across Europe and North America in that same year.

In recent years, Googoosh has collaborated with various artists, including Iranian singer-songwriter Hassan Shamaizadeh, and has taken on the role of head judge and academy director for the popular reality show Googoosh Music Academy. Her performances have graced prestigious venues worldwide, such as Madison Square Garden and the Royal Albert Hall, showcasing her versatility as she sings in multiple languages, including Persian, Azerbaijani, Turkish, English, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Armenian, and French.
