Gordon Tootoosis

Gordon Tootoosis, born on October twenty-fifth, nineteen forty-one, was a distinguished First Nations actor of Cree and Stoney descent. He was a proud descendant of Yellow Mud Blanket, the brother of the renowned Cree leader Poundmaker. Throughout his career, Tootoosis was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to preserving Indigenous culture and sharing the stories of his people.

As a founding member of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, Tootoosis played a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of Aboriginal actors. His dedication extended beyond the stage, as he served as a leading Cree activist, social worker, and band chief, offering encouragement and training to aspiring talents. He famously stated, 'Leadership is about submission to duty, not elevation to power,' reflecting his deep sense of responsibility to his community.

In the realm of voice acting, Tootoosis lent his voice to memorable characters, including Sheriff Gordy in the animated films Open Season and Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run.
