Gorilla Zoe, born Alonzo Keith Mathis Jr. on January 26, 1983, hails from East Point, Georgia. He made his mark in the hip hop scene by joining the renowned Bad Boy Records group Boyz n da Hood in two thousand six, stepping in after the departure of prominent member Jeezy. His debut album with the group, titled Back Up n da Chevy, was released in two thousand seven, but it received a mixed response from both critics and fans, which ultimately led to the group's disbandment.
Following this, Gorilla Zoe embarked on a solo career, signing with Bad Boy, an imprint of Atlantic Records, in collaboration with Block Entertainment. His first solo project, Welcome to the Zoo, was also released in two thousand seven. Despite facing mixed reviews, the album achieved notable success, reaching the top twenty of the Billboard 200 chart and featuring the hit single 'Hood Nigga,' which made it into the top forty of the Billboard Hot 100.
In two thousand nine, Gorilla Zoe released his second album, Don't Feed Da Animals, which climbed into the top ten of the Billboard 200, marking a significant milestone in his career. This album would be his last with Bad Boy Records. He continued to evolve as an artist, releasing his third studio album, King Kong, in two thousand eleven, which peaked at number fifty-six on the charts.
