She began her musical journey by sharing original songs and covers on YouTube, captivating audiences at open mic nights in her hometown of Suffern, New York.

At the tender age of twelve, VanderWaal gained national recognition by winning the eleventh season of NBC's America's Got Talent, where she showcased her original compositions. In December of the same year, she released her debut EP, Perfectly Imperfect, under Columbia Records and Syco Music, which quickly became the best-selling EP of the year. Her first full-length album, Just the Beginning, debuted at number twenty-two on the U.S. Billboard 200 in two thousand seventeen.

VanderWaal has graced stages at prestigious venues such as Madison Square Garden and the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. She has performed at significant events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria, and has participated in various benefit concerts and music festivals.
