Green Boots

Green Boots is a haunting symbol of the perilous nature of mountaineering, representing the body of an unidentified climber who became a landmark on the Northeast ridge route of Mount Everest. This climber, often referred to as Green Boots due to the distinctive green Koflach mountaineering boots worn at the time of death, has sparked numerous theories regarding their identity.

The most widely accepted theory suggests that Green Boots is Tsewang Paljor, an Indian climber who was part of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police expedition during the tragic events of the 1996 climbing disaster. Paljor's body was discovered curled in a limestone alcove cave at an altitude of eight thousand five hundred meters, or twenty-seven thousand nine hundred feet, where it remained a point of reference for climbers traversing the treacherous terrain.

For years, climbers from the north side of Everest encountered the body, which served as a grim reminder of the mountain's dangers. In two thousand fourteen, the body was moved, but the legacy of Green Boots continues to resonate within the mountaineering community, symbolizing both the risks involved in high-altitude climbing and the enduring mystery of those who have perished on the world's highest peak.
