Green Day

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Green Day

Green Day, an iconic American rock band, emerged from Rodeo, California, in 1987, founded by the dynamic duo of lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt. The lineup solidified in 1990 with the addition of drummer Tré Cool, who replaced John Kiffmeyer. Initially known as Sweet Children, the band became a significant force in the late 1980s and early 1990s Bay Area punk scene, particularly associated with the influential 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley.

Their major-label debut, Dookie, released in 1994 through Reprise Records, marked a turning point in their career, achieving breakout success and selling over twenty million copies in the United States. This album played a crucial role in reigniting mainstream interest in punk rock. Although subsequent albums like Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning did not replicate Dookie's monumental success, they still garnered significant acclaim, with Insomniac and Nimrod reaching double platinum status.

In 2004, Green Day released American Idiot, a rock opera that resonated with a younger audience, selling six million copies in the US. This was followed by 21st Century Breakdown in 2009 and a trilogy of albums—¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!—in 2012. Despite facing challenges such as a lack of promotion and Armstrong's rehab stint, the band continued to evolve, releasing Revolution Radio in 2016, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and Father of All Motherfuckers in 2020, with Saviors set for release in 2024.

Green Day's influence extends beyond music; in 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot premiered on Broadway, earning three Tony Award nominations and winning for Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, marking a significant milestone in their illustrious career. With approximately seventy-five million records sold worldwide, Green Day stands as one of the best-selling music artists, boasting five Grammy Awards from twenty nominations, including accolades for Dookie and American Idiot.
