Greg Van Avermaet, born on May seventeenth, nineteen eighty-five, is a retired Belgian professional cyclist renowned for his versatility in the sport. Throughout his career, he established himself as a formidable competitor in classic cycle races, showcasing his ability to excel in both one-day events and stage races, particularly on hilly terrains.

His impressive achievements include winning the men's individual road race at the 2016 Summer Olympics, as well as prestigious one-day races such as Paris–Roubaix, Gent–Wevelgem, and E3 Harelbeke in 2017. Van Avermaet also claimed victories in the GP de Montréal and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in both 2016 and 2017, further solidifying his status as a top-tier cyclist.

In the Grand Tours, he made his mark with two individual stage wins in the Tour de France, where he wore the Yellow Jersey for a total of eleven days during the 2016 and 2018 editions. Additionally, he won the points classification in the Vuelta a España, which included one stage win, and was the overall winner of the 2017 UCI World Tour.

For the 2021 season, Van Avermaet joined the AG2R Citroën Team on a three-year contract. After a remarkable career, he announced his retirement from racing in 2023, with his final race being the Paris-Tours.
