Gregory Areshian

Gregory Areshian, born on May thirteenth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished Armenian-American historian and archaeologist. He served as a professor at the American University of Armenia, where he shared his extensive knowledge and passion for history with students.

Areshian is renowned for his role as co-director of an international archaeological team led by Boris Gasparyan. This team made groundbreaking discoveries in Areni, including a five thousand five hundred-year-old shoe and the oldest known winery, which Areshian noted provided a complete archaeological picture of wine production dating back six thousand one hundred years.

Throughout his career, Areshian has taught at fourteen universities and colleges across the United States, including prestigious institutions such as the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Chicago. His academic contributions extend to over one hundred fifty scholarly works published in five languages across twelve countries, focusing on interdisciplinary studies in social sciences and humanities, particularly regarding the Middle East and Armenia.
