Gretchen Daily

Gretchen C. Daily, born on October 19, 1964, is a prominent American environmental scientist and tropical ecologist whose work has significantly advanced our understanding of humanity's relationship with nature. Her research focuses on the intricate dependencies and impacts that humans have on the natural world, emphasizing the importance of valuing nature in various sectors including policy, finance, and management.

As the co-founder and faculty director of the Natural Capital Project, Daily leads a global initiative aimed at integrating the values of nature into the decision-making processes of governments, corporations, NGOs, and other institutions. This project collaborates with over three hundred partners worldwide, pioneering innovative science and technology to promote inclusive and sustainable development.

Daily holds the esteemed position of Bing Professor of Environmental Science in the Department of Biology at Stanford University, where she also directs the Center for Conservation Biology. Additionally, she is a senior fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, contributing her expertise to various environmental initiatives.

Her accolades include being an elected fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society.
