Guan Yu, born in the year one hundred sixty-two, was a prominent military general during the tumultuous late Eastern Han dynasty of China. He served under the warlord Liu Bei, forming a brotherly bond with him and his companion Zhang Fei. Together, they embarked on numerous exploits that would shape the course of Chinese history.

Renowned for his unwavering loyalty to Liu Bei, Guan Yu's military prowess was evident in his decisive actions, such as avenging Cao Cao's kindness by defeating Yan Liang at the Battle of Boma. His strategic mind and leadership were instrumental in the establishment of Liu Bei's state of Shu Han, particularly after Liu Bei's conquest of Yi Province in two hundred fourteen, where Guan Yu took on the responsibility of governing and defending Jing Province for nearly seven years.

However, the tides of war turned in two hundred nineteen when Guan Yu faced defeat at the Battle of Fancheng. During his absence, Liu Bei's ally, Sun Quan, betrayed their alliance, leading to the loss of Jing Province. Tragically, Guan Yu was captured in an ambush by Sun Quan's forces and met his end in Linju, Xiangyang Commandery, in the spring of two hundred twenty.
