Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, born on April twenty-first, nineteen eighty-three, is a talented English actress known for her dynamic performances on stage and screen. She began her acting journey with the National Youth Music Theatre and honed her craft at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her early acclaim came from her captivating portrayals of Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet' and Octavia in 'Anthony and Cleopatra' at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester in two thousand five.

In two thousand nine, she made her mark on both the West End and Broadway stages as Ophelia in 'Hamlet'. Her remarkable talent was further recognized in two thousand fifteen when she received an Evening Standard Theatre Award nomination for her role in Jessica Swale's play 'Nell Gwynn'.

Mbatha-Raw's television career began with notable appearances in 'Doctor Who' in two thousand seven, followed by roles in 'Undercovers' in two thousand ten and 'Touch' in two thousand twelve. She gained significant recognition for her leading roles in films such as 'Belle' in two thousand thirteen and 'Beyond the Lights' in two thousand fourteen, alongside supporting roles in 'Miss Sloane' in two thousand sixteen, 'Beauty and the Beast' in two thousand seventeen, 'A Wrinkle in Time' in two thousand eighteen, 'Motherless Brooklyn' in two thousand nineteen, and 'Misbehaviour' in two thousand twenty.

In addition to her film work, she starred in the acclaimed Netflix episode 'San Junipero' in two thousand sixteen and has taken on leading roles in the Apple TV+ series 'Surface' since two thousand twenty-two, as well as appearing in 'The Morning Show' in two thousand nineteen and the Disney+ series 'Loki' from two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-three. In recognition of her contributions to drama, Mbatha-Raw was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II in two thousand seventeen. Furthermore, in February two thousand twenty-one, she was appointed a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
