Guillaume Budé

Guillaume Budé, born on January twenty-sixth, fourteen sixty-seven, was a prominent French scholar and humanist whose contributions to the intellectual landscape of his time were profound. His passion for classical studies and humanism led him to become a distinguished librarian, translator, philosopher, numismatist, printer, and classical scholar.

Budé played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Collegium Trilingue, which later evolved into the esteemed Collège de France. His commitment to education and scholarship was further exemplified by his position as the first keeper of the royal library at the Palace of Fontainebleau. This library would eventually be relocated to Paris, where it became the renowned Bibliothèque nationale de France.

In addition to his scholarly pursuits, Budé served as an ambassador to Rome, showcasing his diplomatic skills. He also held several significant judicial and civil administrative roles, reflecting his versatility and influence in both academic and governmental spheres.
