Guittone d'Arezzo

Guittone d'Arezzo, born in the year one thousand two hundred thirty-five, emerged as a prominent figure in Tuscan literature. Renowned as a poet and writer, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Tuscan School, a movement that would influence generations of poets to come.

Initially celebrated for his secular love poetry, Guittone's life took a significant turn in the 1260s when he underwent a profound conversion. This spiritual awakening led him to join the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary, marking a transition from secular themes to religious devotion in his work.

His political affiliations also shaped his life; in one thousand two hundred fifty-six, Guittone faced exile from Arezzo due to his support for the Guelf faction. This period of displacement did not hinder his literary contributions, as he continued to write and inspire others through his poetry.
