Gukesh Dommaraju, born on May 29, 2006, is an extraordinary Indian chess grandmaster who has made history as the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion. His journey in chess began at the tender age of seven, and by the age of twelve, he had already earned the title of grandmaster, becoming the third-youngest in chess history.
Gukesh's remarkable achievements include winning the under-12 title at the World Youth Chess Championship in 2018 and securing multiple gold medals at the Asian Youth Chess Championship the same year. He became an International Master in March 2017 and, on January 15, 2019, at just twelve years, seven months, and seventeen days old, he became the second-youngest grandmaster ever, following Sergey Karjakin.
In addition to his individual accolades, Gukesh has contributed to team successes, including a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games and a bronze medal at the 44th Chess Olympiad, where he also claimed an individual gold medal. By September 2023, he had risen to become the top-rated Indian player, surpassing the long-standing record of Viswanathan Anand.
