Gulnara Karimova

Gulnara Karimova, born on July eighth, nineteen seventy-two, is a multifaceted individual known for her roles as a diplomat, politician, entrepreneur, and singer. As the elder daughter of Islam Karimov, the long-serving president of Uzbekistan from nineteen ninety-one until his death in two thousand sixteen, she held significant sway in the country due to her familial ties and extensive business dealings.

However, her influence began to wane in two thousand thirteen following a conflict with her father. This shift marked the beginning of a tumultuous period in her life, culminating in her house arrest in Tashkent in November two thousand fourteen. The subsequent years saw her embroiled in legal troubles, including a money-laundering investigation led by Swiss prosecutors in December two thousand sixteen.

In two thousand seventeen, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions, prohibiting American entities from engaging with her or her businesses. That same year, she was sentenced to ten years in prison in Uzbekistan for fraud and money laundering, a sentence that was later commuted to five years of house arrest in two thousand eighteen. Despite this reprieve, she faced further legal challenges and was sent back to prison in March two thousand nineteen for allegedly breaching the terms of her house arrest.
