Guru Angad

Guru Angad, born on March thirty-first, fifteen oh four, was the second of the ten Sikh gurus and a pivotal figure in the development of Sikhism. His journey began after he met Guru Nanak, the founder of the faith, which led him to embrace Sikhism wholeheartedly. Angad dedicated many years to serving alongside Nanak, who affectionately named him Angad, meaning 'my own limb'. This deep bond culminated in Nanak selecting Angad as his successor.

Following the passing of Guru Nanak in fifteen thirty-nine, Angad took the helm of the Sikh tradition. He is particularly revered for his significant contributions to the Gurmukhi alphabet, which he adopted and formalized, thereby enhancing the written expression of Sikh teachings. His efforts also included the compilation of Nanak's hymns, alongside his own contributions of sixty-two or sixty-three Saloks, enriching the spiritual literature of Sikhism.

In a remarkable display of humility and foresight, Guru Angad chose not to appoint his own son as his successor. Instead, he recognized the spiritual potential in his disciple, Amar Das, and entrusted him with the role of the third Guru of Sikhism. This decision underscored Angad's commitment to the principles of Sikhism and the importance of merit over lineage.
