Guru Gobind Singh

Guru Gobind Singh, born on December twenty-second, sixteen sixty-six, was the tenth and final human Sikh Guru. He ascended to leadership at the tender age of nine, following the execution of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This early transition marked the beginning of his profound influence on Sikhism, as he embraced the roles of a warrior, poet, and philosopher.

Among his significant contributions to Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh founded the Khalsa in sixteen ninety-nine, a community of Sikh warriors dedicated to upholding justice and righteousness. He introduced the Five Ks, essential articles of faith that Khalsa Sikhs are required to wear at all times, symbolizing their commitment to their beliefs. His literary contributions include the Dasam Granth, a revered scripture containing hymns integral to Sikh prayers and rituals.

Guru Gobind Singh also played a pivotal role in establishing the Guru Granth Sahib as the primary holy scripture of Sikhism, enshrining it as the eternal Guru. He introduced the concept of Guru Panth, designating the collective community as his spiritual successor, although this form of leadership is rarely invoked in contemporary practice. His legacy includes the founding of significant sites such as Paonta Sahib in sixteen eighty-five and Damdama Sahib in sixteen oh five.
