Gustav Ritter von Kahr

Gustav Ritter von Kahr, born on November twenty-ninth, eighteen sixty-two, was a prominent German jurist and right-wing politician. His career was marked by significant roles, including serving as the district president of Upper Bavaria and the Bavarian minister president. From September nineteen twenty-three to February nineteen twenty-four, he held the position of Bavarian state commissioner general, where he wielded dictatorial powers.

During his tenure, Kahr was known for his open opposition to the Weimar Republic, notably by halting the enforcement of the Law for the Protection of the Republic. He was involved in clandestine discussions with General Otto von Lossow and Bavarian police commander Hans von Seisser, plotting to overthrow the Reich government in Berlin.

In November nineteen twenty-three, before their plans could materialize, Adolf Hitler initiated the Beer Hall Putsch. Kahr, Lossow, and Seisser ultimately turned against Hitler, playing a crucial role in thwarting the coup attempt. However, following his resignation as state commissioner general in nineteen twenty-four, Kahr continued his public service as president of the Bavarian Administrative Court until nineteen thirty.

Tragically, Kahr's opposition to the Nazi regime during the Beer Hall Putsch led to his assassination during the infamous Night of the Long Knives in June nineteen thirty-four, marking a dark chapter in German history.
