By the year two thousand, he had secured one medal in nineteen ninety-two, two in nineteen ninety-six, and one in two thousand, ranking him fourth in Olympic medals among Brazilian competitors, surpassed only by sailors Robert Scheidt and Torben Grael, and canoeist Isaquias Queiroz.

In addition to his Olympic success, Borges shone brightly at the Pan American Games, where he amassed eight gold medals, making him the third-most decorated Brazilian athlete in that event. There, he not only competed for the university's swim team under the guidance of Hall of Fame Coach Jon Urbanchek but also graduated with a degree in Economics, alongside notable teammates such as Eric Namesnik and Marcel Wouda.
