Guylaine Dumont

Guylaine Dumont, born on September tenth, nineteen sixty-seven, is a distinguished Canadian athlete known for her remarkable contributions to volleyball and beach volleyball. Residing in Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, she began her athletic journey at the young age of seventeen, joining the Canadian national volleyball team in nineteen eighty-five. Over the years, she has established herself as one of the top female volleyball players in Canada.

Her career highlights include a historic fifth-place finish at the two thousand four Olympic Games in Athens, where she and her partner Annie Martin achieved the best result for Canadian women in beach volleyball, narrowly losing to the American duo of Misty May and Kerry Walsh in the quarter-finals. Dumont's professional journey took her overseas from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-seven, where she played in Italy and Japan.

After a brief retirement from competitive volleyball, Dumont made a triumphant return in two thousand one at the Francophone Games, securing a gold medal. She resumed full-time competition in beach volleyball in two thousand two, partnering with Martin until her second retirement following the two thousand four Olympics.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Dumont is a dedicated therapist specializing in helping relationships in sports and a motivational speaker. In her personal life, Dumont is married to Gregor Jelonek, a former Olympian in long track speed skating, who now coaches the Canadian team. Their daughter, Gabrielle Jelonek, is a promising speed skater on the Canadian Next Gen team, having represented Canada at two junior World Championships in two thousand eighteen and two thousand nineteen. In two thousand twenty-one, Dumont also ventured into politics, running for the New Democratic Party in the Lévis—Lotbinière riding during the federal election.
