György Cziffra

György Cziffra, born on November fifth, nineteen twenty-one in Budapest, was a Hungarian-French virtuoso pianist and composer renowned for his extraordinary talent. He is celebrated as one of the greatest virtuoso pianists of the twentieth century, a distinction that reflects his remarkable skill and artistry.

Among his esteemed teachers was Ernő Dohnányi, who himself was a pupil of István Thoman, a favored student of the legendary Franz Liszt. This lineage of musical excellence undoubtedly influenced Cziffra's own approach to piano performance and composition.

In nineteen sixty-eight, Cziffra became a French national, further solidifying his connection to the rich cultural landscape of France. He is particularly known for his exceptional recordings of works by Franz Liszt, Frédéric Chopin, and Robert Schumann, as well as for his technically demanding arrangements of orchestral pieces for the piano, including Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Flight of the Bumblebee' and Johann Strauss II's 'The Blue Danube.'

Throughout his career, Cziffra left behind a substantial body of recordings that continue to inspire musicians and audiences alike. He spent his later years in Senlis, a charming commune northeast of Paris, where he dedicated himself to nurturing young musicians and artists through a foundation he established.
