György Sárosi

György Sárosi, born on September sixteenth, nineteen twelve, was a distinguished Hungarian footballer celebrated for his remarkable versatility and technical prowess. He made a significant impact while playing for Ferencváros and the Hungary national team, showcasing his ability to excel in various positions. Primarily a second striker, Sárosi also demonstrated his skills in midfield and central defense, contributing to Ferencváros's triumph in five Hungarian league titles from nineteen thirty-two to nineteen forty-one.

His international career was highlighted by his participation in the FIFA World Cup, where he scored a goal in the nineteen thirty-four tournament. However, his most notable achievement came in nineteen thirty-eight when he captained the Hungarian team to the World Cup finals. During this tournament, Sárosi netted five goals, including one in the final match against Italy, which brought the score to three-two before Italy ultimately secured victory. His performance earned him the bronze boot as the third-highest goalscorer of the tournament.

In recognition of his exceptional talent, Sárosi was named the sixtieth European Player of the Century in the IFFHS Century Elections. He remains fifth on the all-time top-goalscorers list for the Hungary national team, having scored forty-two goals in sixty-two appearances.

After retiring from professional play, Sárosi transitioned into coaching, moving to Italy where he managed several clubs, including Genoa, Juventus, Bari, and Roma, as well as Lugano. His contributions to football continued until his passing in nineteen ninety-three at the age of eighty.
