Hailemariam Desalegn, born on July nineteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a prominent Ethiopian politician who made significant contributions to the country's political landscape. He served as the Prime Minister of Ethiopia from two thousand twelve to two thousand eighteen, following the death of his predecessor, Meles Zenawi. Initially stepping into the role in an acting capacity, Hailemariam was later elected as the chair of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) on September fifteenth, two thousand twelve.

Before ascending to the premiership, Hailemariam held the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from two thousand ten to two thousand twelve. His leadership extended beyond national borders as he also served as the chairperson of the African Union from two thousand thirteen to two thousand fourteen, showcasing his influence in regional politics.

In February two thousand eighteen, amidst widespread protests and unrest that began in two thousand sixteen, Hailemariam submitted his resignation as Prime Minister and chair of the EPRDF. His resignation was officially accepted on March eleventh, two thousand eighteen, although he continued to lead a caretaker government until April second, two thousand eighteen. Notably, he became the first leader in modern Ethiopian history to voluntarily step down from power, a significant moment that underscored his commitment to facilitating reforms in the country.
