Halil İnalcık

Halil İnalcık, born on May 26, 1916, was a prominent Turkish historian renowned for his groundbreaking research on the Ottoman Empire. His work was characterized by a unique social and economic perspective, which significantly influenced the field of Ottoman studies.

İnalcık's academic journey began at Ankara University, where he not only completed his PhD but also dedicated over three decades of his career from 1940 to 1972. His tenure at Ankara laid the foundation for his future contributions to historical scholarship.

In 1972, he transitioned to the University of Chicago, where he taught Ottoman history until 1986. His time at Chicago further solidified his reputation as a leading expert in the field. Following this, in 1994, he joined Bilkent University, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the history department.

Beyond his teaching, İnalcık was a founding member of the Eurasian Academy, contributing to the academic community and fostering a deeper understanding of Eurasian history.
