She gained international recognition when she competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, where she represented Nigeria in the 100 metres sprint and the 4 × 100 metres relay.

During the Olympics, Ismaila showcased her talent in the 100 metres, finishing fourth in her first round heat with a time of eleven point seventy-two seconds, which, unfortunately, did not qualify her for the next round. However, her contribution to the 4 × 100 metres relay was pivotal. Alongside her teammates Ene Franca Idoko, Gloria Kemasuode, and Oludamola Osayomi, she participated in the relay, which initially placed fourth in their heat, securing the best non-directly qualifying time.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Nigerian relay team advanced to the finals, where Ismaila replaced Agnes Osazuwa. The team delivered an impressive performance, clocking in at forty-three point zero four seconds, earning them a bronze medal, finishing behind Russia and Belgium. In a subsequent development, the Russian team was disqualified in two thousand sixteen due to doping violations, which elevated Nigeria to the silver medal position.
