Hanna Reitsch

Hanna Reitsch, born on March 29, 1912, was a pioneering German aviator and test pilot whose remarkable career spanned several decades. Renowned for her exceptional skills, she set over forty flight altitude and endurance records in gliding and unpowered flight during the 1930s, establishing herself as a leading figure in aviation.

In the tumultuous final days of World War II, Reitsch was one of the last individuals to meet Adolf Hitler in the Führerbunker before his suicide in April 1945. Following her capture, she provided insights into her departure from Berlin, firmly denying any involvement in aiding Hitler's escape.

After the war, Reitsch's expertise was recognized internationally. In the 1960s, she served as a technical adviser in Ghana, sponsored by the West German foreign office. Her contributions to aviation education included founding a gliding school in Ghana, where she worked closely with the country's leader, Kwame Nkrumah.

Hanna Reitsch's legacy is marked not only by her aviation achievements but also by her complex interactions with historical events and figures, making her a significant yet controversial figure in the annals of aviation history.
