Hans Haas

Hans Haas, born on October 17, 1906, in Vienna, was a remarkable Austrian Jewish weightlifter whose athletic prowess shone brightly in the early 20th century. His journey in weightlifting began to take shape in 1926 when he first claimed the title of Austrian champion, marking the start of a distinguished career.

Haas's most notable achievements came during the Olympic Games, where he represented Austria with pride. In 1928, he triumphed in the lightweight class, securing the coveted Olympic gold medal. This victory not only highlighted his exceptional talent but also solidified his place in the annals of Olympic history.

Four years later, at the 1932 Summer Olympics, Haas continued to demonstrate his skill and determination, earning a silver medal in the same lightweight category. His accomplishments have been recognized by historians, including Dr. George Eisen of Nazareth College, who included Haas on his esteemed list of Jewish Olympic Medalists.
