Hans-Rudolf Merz

Hans-Rudolf Merz, born on November tenth, nineteen forty-two, in Herisau, Switzerland, is a distinguished Swiss politician and economist. He is best known for his role as President of Switzerland in two thousand nine and as a member of the Federal Council from two thousand four to two thousand ten, representing the Free Democratic Party, now known as The Liberals.

Merz's academic journey culminated in a Doctorate in economics from the University of St. Gallen in nineteen seventy-one. Following his graduation, he gained valuable experience working with various banks and as a consultant in emerging countries, which laid the groundwork for his subsequent political career.

During his time in the Swiss government, Merz became notably associated with significant issues such as Swiss Banking Secrecy and the tax dispute with the United States, particularly the UBS affair.
