Hap Sharp

Hap Sharp, born on January first, nineteen twenty-eight, was an influential American race car driver known for his remarkable contributions to the world of motorsport. He participated in six Formula One Grands Prix, showcasing his talent and passion for racing on an international stage.

However, Sharp's legacy extends far beyond his Formula One appearances. He is perhaps best remembered as a co-owner and driver of the innovative Chaparral sports racing cars, a venture he embarked on with Jim Hall in Midland, Texas. Together, they founded Chaparral Cars, Inc. in nineteen sixty-two, marking a significant milestone in automotive history.

The duo immediately set to work on the design and construction of the Chaparral 2, a groundbreaking mid-engined car that featured an aerospace-inspired semi-monocoque fiberglass chassis. This revolutionary design not only pushed the boundaries of racing technology but also established Chaparral as a formidable name in the world of sports car racing.
