He first stepped into the wrestling ring in nineteen eighty-eight, showcasing his skills in various promotions including the World Organization of Wrestling and Smoky Mountain Wrestling before making his full-time debut in WWE in nineteen ninety-four.

Initially, Holly captivated audiences with his character as a NASCAR driver, Thurman 'Sparky' Plugg, which later evolved into the more recognizable Bob 'Spark Plug' Holly. His career took a significant turn in nineteen ninety-eight when he teamed up with Bart Gunn as Bombastic Bob, forming a duo known as The Midnight Express. By the end of that year, he returned to his original name and joined The J.O.B. Squad, a stable that would further define his early WWE persona.
