Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Harini Amarasuriya

Harini Amarasuriya, born on March sixth, nineteen seventy, is a prominent Sri Lankan sociologist, academic, activist, and politician. She has made significant contributions to the field of sociology and has been an influential figure in Sri Lankan politics, currently serving as the sixteenth Prime Minister of Sri Lanka since September twenty twenty-four.

Before entering politics, Amarasuriya dedicated a decade to academia at the Open University of Sri Lanka, where she actively participated in trade union actions through the Federation of University Teachers' Association. Her commitment to education and social justice laid the groundwork for her political career.

In two thousand twenty, she was nominated by the National People's Power (NPP) party as a National List Member of Parliament. Her leadership qualities and dedication to public service led to her appointment as Prime Minister, making her the third woman to hold this esteemed office in Sri Lanka, following the legacies of Sirimavo Bandaranaike and Chandrika Kumaratunga.

Amarasuriya's political journey continued with a remarkable reappointment as the seventeenth Prime Minister after the NPP's landslide victory in the two thousand twenty-four parliamentary election, where she garnered six hundred fifty-five thousand two hundred eighty-nine votes, marking the second-highest vote count in Sri Lanka's parliamentary electoral history.
