Haris Silajdžić

Haris Silajdžić, born on October first, nineteen forty-five, in Breza, is a distinguished Bosnian politician and academic. He has made significant contributions to the political landscape of Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving as the fifth Bosniak member of the Presidency from two thousand six to two thousand ten. His political journey began in the early nineteen nineties, where he held the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-three, and later became the Prime Minister during the tumultuous period of the Bosnian War.

Silajdžić's tenure as Prime Minister from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-six marked him as Bosnia and Herzegovina's longest-serving head of government since the Yugoslav era. He was a close ally of the country's first president, Alija Izetbegović, and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, serving as its first Prime Minister from nineteen ninety-four until nineteen ninety-six.

In the two thousand six general election, Silajdžić achieved a remarkable victory, securing nearly sixty-three percent of the vote to become a member of the Bosnian Presidency. However, his political career faced challenges, culminating in a third-place finish in the two thousand ten elections. Originally a prominent figure in the Party of Democratic Action, he founded the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina in nineteen ninety-six, where he continued to influence constitutional reform discussions.

Silajdžić's leadership in the SBiH and his involvement in the April package negotiations showcased his commitment to political reform, although his party's decision against the proposed amendments led to their failure. He remained active in politics until his retirement in two thousand twelve, amidst a decline in his party's popularity, leaving behind a legacy of significant political engagement and reform efforts.
