Harry Markland Molson

Harry Markland Molson, born on August 9, 1856, in Montreal, Canada East, was a notable Canadian politician and entrepreneur. He belonged to the distinguished Molson family, although he was not a prominent figure within its influential branches. His fortune was unexpectedly inherited from his childless uncle, John Henry Robinson Molson, a former owner of the Molson Brewery and President of Molson Bank.

In his professional life, Harry Molson served as the Mayor of Dorval, Quebec, and held significant positions such as Governor of the Montreal General Hospital and a director on the board of the Molson Bank. His contributions to the community were marked by his dedication to public service and business acumen.

In February 1912, Molson traveled to England for business. Initially scheduled to return to Canada on the Allan Line ocean liner, SS Tunisian, he was persuaded by fellow businessman Major Arthur Peuchen to extend his stay and join him on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Molson occupied First Class stateroom C-30 during this ill-fated journey.

Tragically, Harry Molson was last seen aboard the Titanic, preparing to swim towards a distant light he believed to be another ship. His body was never recovered, leaving a poignant end to the life of a man who had made significant contributions to his community.
