Harvie Andre, born on July twenty-seventh, nineteen forty, in Edmonton, Alberta, is a distinguished Canadian engineer, businessman, and politician. He completed his education at the University of Alberta, earning his undergraduate degree in nineteen sixty-two and a PhD in nineteen sixty-six. His academic journey also included postgraduate studies at the California Institute of Technology. From nineteen sixty-six to nineteen seventy-two, he served as a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Calgary.

In nineteen seventy-two, Andre entered the political arena by winning a seat in the House of Commons as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre, a position he held for an impressive twenty-one years. During his tenure, he was known for his strong opposition to Petro-Canada and the National Energy Program, and he took on the role of defence critic.

Following the Progressive Conservative victory in the nineteen eighty-four election, Andre was appointed to the Cabinet, where he initially served as Minister of Supply and Services. His career in government saw him transition to various key roles, including Associate Minister of National Defence, Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, and Minister of Regional Industrial Expansion. Notably, he was entrusted with the responsibility for Canada Post Corporation in nineteen eighty-seven. For the final three years of the Mulroney government, he held the position of Government House Leader.

After opting not to seek re-election in the nineteen ninety-three federal election, Andre returned to the private sector. He became actively involved in the energy industry, taking on leadership roles such as president of Cresvard Corporation since nineteen ninety-eight, chief executive of Wenzel Downhole Tools, and chairman of BowEnergy Resources since two thousand one. His extensive experience also led him to serve on numerous corporate boards.
