Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, born on November twenty-ninth, nineteen fifty-five, is a prominent Somali politician who has been serving as the President of Somalia since May fifteenth, twenty twenty-two. This marks his return to the presidency after previously holding the office from two thousand twelve to two thousand seventeen.

Before entering the political arena, Hassan was a respected academic, having co-founded SIMAD University where he served as a professor and dean. His academic background laid a strong foundation for his political career, which began in earnest when he was elected President of the Transitional Federal Government in two thousand twelve.

Hassan's leadership has not been without controversy. In two thousand fourteen, he faced criticism for welcoming Ethiopian troops into the African Union mission following the invasion of two thousand six. His first term was marred by allegations of corruption, media restrictions, and abuse of power, which drew significant public scrutiny.

After losing the presidency in two thousand seventeen, he established the Union for Peace and Development Party, positioning himself as a key figure in Somali politics.
