Hatem Ben Arfa, born on March 7, 1987, is a celebrated former professional footballer from France, renowned for his exceptional flair and dribbling skills. As a winger and attacking midfielder, he garnered a cult following and is often hailed as one of the greatest dribblers in football history. Despite his immense talent, Ben Arfa faced criticism for his discipline on and off the pitch.

His football journey began in the Île-de-France region, where he honed his skills at Boulogne-Billancourt and Versailles before being selected for the prestigious Clairefontaine academy in 1999. After three formative years, he joined Lyon, where he achieved remarkable success, winning four Ligue 1 titles. Initially playing as a centre forward, he transitioned to a striker role during the 2007–08 season, showcasing his versatility.

In the summer of 2008, Ben Arfa made a high-profile move to Marseille for eleven million euros, a transfer that required intervention from the Ligue de Football Professionnel. At Marseille, he added another league title to his accolades in the 2009–10 season, along with the Coupe de la Ligue in 2010. His career took him to Newcastle United on loan in the 2010–11 season, where he later secured a permanent deal, spending four impactful years at the club.

After a loan spell at Hull City, Ben Arfa signed with Nice in January 2015, where he made a significant impact by scoring seventeen goals in thirty-two league appearances. His performances attracted attention from top European clubs, leading to a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on July 1, 2016. Following a challenging season without competitive appearances, he joined Rennes, where he celebrated victory in the 2019 Coupe de France against PSG. His career continued with stints at Valladolid and Bordeaux before he joined Lille in 2022.

On the international stage, Ben Arfa represented France at various youth levels, contributing to the under-17 team's triumph in the 2004 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. He made his senior debut in October 2007 and went on to earn fifteen caps, scoring twice for his country.
